Hailing from Tilakchanpur village in Balaganj Upazila, Sylhet, Tanzim's cricketing journey began at a young age. While studying in class VIII, he was selected at Moulvibazar District Stadium for Bangladesh’s under-13 national team. His passion for fast bowling led him to a specialized training course at Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Later, he joined BKSP, Bangladesh’s premier sports institute, which played a crucial role in shaping his career.

His early exposure to competitive cricket saw him represent Bangladesh at the under-17 level in India in 2016, followed by appearances for the under-19 team in England and Sri Lanka in 2019. His List A debut came on March 27, 2019, for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. Later that year, he was included in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

His first-class debut followed on March 29, 2021, for Sylhet Division in the National Cricket League, and he made his T20 debut on June 5, 2021, for Abahani Limited in the Dhaka Premier Division T20 League. His consistent performances earned him a place in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup squad.

Tanzim’s breakthrough at the international level came in 2023 when he made his ODI debut against India on September 15 during the Asia Cup. Later that year, he was part of Bangladesh’s squad for the tour of New Zealand and made his T20I debut on December 27, 2023, against the Kiwis.

The year 2024 marked a significant milestone in his career when he was selected for Bangladesh’s squad in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He showcased his skills on the global stage, delivering a memorable performance that included a double-wicket maiden and a wicket maiden. He bowled 21 dot balls in a single match, the highest in a men’s T20 World Cup game at that point before being surpassed by Lockie Ferguson. Tanzim finished the tournament as one of Bangladesh’s standout performers, taking 11 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.20.
